22 year-old Lizzie Ferguson from South Australia shares with us her first-time experience at Voices for Justice National Gathering.

1. How and why did you first come to get involved in Micah’s Voices for Justice National Gathering?

Last year the Uniting Church in South Australia supported a group of young leaders to attend Micah's Voices for Justice National Gathering. I was instantly captivated when I read about the conference, I think it's incredible for Christians from around the country to have an opportunity to gather together and take a stand for justice and equality. I was so excited to be involved in a movement which was founded on God's heart for justice, and allowed us participants to really put their faith into action.

2. How were you impacted through your experience at Voices for Justice last year?

The Voices for Justice conference really shaped the way I understood our Christian calling to do justice, love mercy and walk humbly with our God. The experience highlighted the huge influence that we can have when we raise a powerful voice for justice in this country. The Voices for Justice conference expanded my understanding of how justice and faith come together, and has connected me with so many like-minded individuals around the country.

3. What were some of the highlights for you?

I loved having the opportunity to meet with our politicians and have our message heard. I initially felt completely out of my depth at the thought of speaking with highly educated, 'important' individuals, but I really felt that the conference equipped me with the skills and confidence to do God's work in the political sphere. For many Christians, the idea of mixing politics and religion can be controversial, but I was really challenged and delighted by the way in which Micah enabled us to blend the two so well.

4. What would you like to say to Christians in South Australia who have never been to VFJ before?

God's call for Christians to act justly is evident throughout the bible, but so often we forget, or are unsure of how to put this into practice. The Voices for Justice conference equips participants with an understanding of God's heart for justice, and provides participants with skills and opportunities to put this understanding into action. The conference provides biblically-based teaching, in a positive, uplifting environment. I encourage you to come along, be empowered, be inspired!
