In the lead up to the 2016 federal election we have a unique opportunity to let our elected representatives know that we care about Australian aid through hosting an Election Afternoon Tea.
The Afternoon Teas are designed to be a non-confrontational meeting between federal election candidates and church leaders facilitated by Micah supporters with assistance from the Micah staff and coalition.
During an election, candidates are generally more receptive and available to meet people from their electorate. We believe these events will be great opportunities to show federal candidates that voters and community leaders within their electorates are committed to seeing Australia restore its aid program in order to tackle poverty.
Coordinating an event may seem a bit overwhelming at first, but you won't be doing it alone. Whatever your capacity and experience, we will provide you with the following to help you run and facilitate a successful event:
- A step-by-step resource guide with all the details you need to plan and host your afternoon tea, including templates for inviting candidates, contacting your local media and speaking during the event.
- 'We're for Australian aid' tea cups, poster sets and other special items to communicate your message at the afternoon tea
- Help and support from one of our staff members, including contact lists for church leaders and candidates in your electorate.
- Coordination with others who have indicated their interest in running an afternoon tea in your area.
