What will we do at Voices for Justice?

From Saturday 10th - Sunday 11th October in Canberra, you will engage in two days of worship, workshops, teaching and training led by some of the most inspiring and influential leaders in church, development and advocacy circles. From Monday 12th - Tuesday 13th we will be in lobby meetings and special events at Parliament House, strategising for campaigning in our local communities, and participating in a nighttime prayer vigil on Monday night with Canberra Christians, church leaders and politicians. View the program for more details.

What's new about VFJ this year?

More than a one-off event: VFJ 2015 will move from being just a powerful one-off conference and lobbying event, to a platform for deeper campaign strategising and ongoing resourcing as advocates. This means that the four powerful days in Canberra will be designed to equip you with new tools, strategies and networks for ongoing campaigning and connecting in your local regions.

Launch of new Micah campaign: VFJ 2015 will be the public launch of the new Micah campaign. You will have the opportunity to hear and share in the renewed collective vision and strategy of the coalition as we seek to influence Australian politics for the good of the world’s poor in a post-2015 context.

Prayer vigils across Australia: Christians and churches across Australia will stand in solidarity with us as they facilitate prayer vigils in conjunction with our nighttime vigil on Monday 12th. We will be inviting churches to register their prayer vigil on our website and will provide them with prayer resources so that they can join us in praying for the church, our nation, our leaders and our world. More details about hosting a vigil here>

Partnership with Beyond Festival: If you register for both Beyond Festival and Voices for Justice, you will receive a $25 discount. Just present your Beyond ticket to the registration desk at Voices for Justice to receive your reimbursement.

What will the focus be?

This year we have seen severe cuts to the the Federal aid budget and we know that in late September, the Sustainable Development Goals, which build on the Millennium Development Goals (our previous campaigning platform), are set to be agreed upon by world leaders. We will therefore be focusing on education and campaigning around Australian Aid and the new global goals at VFJ 2015.

What will I get out of it?

You will be inspired by God’s heart for justice and grow deeper in understanding our biblical response. You will be empowered to put faith into action and use your voice to speak on behalf of the voiceless. And you will be heard by our nation’s leaders and have an impact on Australia’s response to global poverty.

Can I bring my kids?

Yes! We are excited to include children as part of the weekend program of Voices for Justice with a focused interactive stream designed especially for primary-aged kids! We also have a youth program running for high-school aged students throughout the conference. It is not advised that young children be included in the lobbying appointments on Monday/Tuesday so we advise you arrange alternative care. Micah Challenge recognises that this may present an obstacle for families however this will help ensure meetings retain the focus they need in the limited time available, Please contact Pip Berglund if you wish to discuss this further.
